NED ROGER CRUM, 86
NED ROGER CRUM, 86, died Wednesday, May 5, 2004, at Van Crest Healthcare Center, Van Wert, Ohio. Mr. Crum was a lifelong Hoosier, born and raised in Fort Wayne, before becoming a snowbird in Bradenton, Florida. He was also a resident of Barton Lake in Fremont, before moving to Van Crest Care Center.
The son of Oscar B. and Rosello (Yager) Crum, he was a graduate of Central High School, Purdue University and General Electric Drafting School. He was employed as a journeyman machinist and tool designer at General Electric Corp., a tool designer for Wayne Pump Co., a design engineer at Fort Wayne Tool & Die Co., a manufacturing engineer for Morril Motors Inc., an instructor at Indiana Vocational Technical College and had also been employed at Magnavox/Philips Electron. He was a former member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, in Fort Wayne, Emmanuel Lutheran Church, in Fort Wayne, and The United Methodist Church of Palmetto, Florida.
An avid whistler, you always knew where he was because he loved to whistle. He enjoyed reading, golf and basketball, was a member of the Elks and played the violin, clarinet and piano.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Harold, who died of adolescent diabetes; his brother, Dale, who died in an accident after pushing Ned to safety; his wife, Margaret Starke, in 1978; niece, Rosemarie Shiflett in 1996; and grandson, J.C. Caffro in 1999.
Survivors include wife, Marcella (Richards), whom he married in 1981; son, Tom (Sandy) Crum and grandchildren, Tom, Terri, Tonya and Tim of Lodi, WI; daughter, Pam (Bob) Reynolds and grandchildren, Jamie, Ashley, Brock, Eric and Alex of Lynchburg, VA; stepchildren, Ronnie and Anita Richards of Venedocia, OH; Sandra and Larry Caffro of Ashland, Ohio, Randy and Peggy Richards of Marion, Mary Jo and Jim Miller of Paulding, OH; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and sister, Betty Zollinger of Warrenton, VA.
Funeral Service was Saturday, May 8th in Klaehn, Fahl & Melton Funeral Homes, Wayne Street Chapel, 420 W. Wayne St., Fort Wayne. Burial in Lindenwood Cemetery.
The preferred memorials are the American Cancer Society, Van Crest Care Center, or Lutheran Social Services.
