THERE’S A NEW COOKIE IN TOWN

Starting Friday, January 16, Girl Scouts across Adams, Allen, DeKalb, Huntington, Steuben and Wells counties will once again be selling Girl Scout Cookies. The sale will continue through Saturday, March 14, 2004. Consumers can purchase cookies immediately from a Girl Scout that has the cookies in-hand or use their order form for delivery at a later date.

Here in Waynedale, Girl Scout Cassie Kiel, a student at South Side High School will be knocking on your door with a brand-new cookie for you to try. The new cookie is called Pinatas. It is a crunchy oatmeal base, iced on the bottom, filled with berry-licious fruit, and finished off with swizzles of sugar glaze and a cinnamon crumb topping. Almost anyone can party with this cookie because it is made without eggs, milk or peanuts. Cassie, along with hundreds of other girl scouts, will also be selling the traditional Shortbread, Peanut Butter Patties, Carmel de Lites, Thin Mints, Peanut Butter Sandwiches, Lemon Pastry Cremes, and Animal Treasures.

Another change this year is a price increase. Each box of cookies will cost $3.50, an increase of 50 cents. Sandy Kohne, program marketing manager for Girl Scouts of Limberlost Council said, “Seventy-seven percent of $3.50 stays to serve the girls right here in Limberlost Council.” The cookie sales helps to maintain two camps and the needs of the council, and supplies money to troops.

Cassie Kiel is working on a Cookie Scholarship. She has 570 more boxes to go to reach her goal. She needs to sell a total of 1800 boxes of cookies in order to qualify for this scholarship. Cassie has your favorite cookies on hand. She can be reached at 312-8264 or you can email her at pkiel@comcast.net.
