OPEN TO THE PUBLIC – BENEFIT FOR INJURED RIDERS
The benefit will be held Saturday, September 20, 2003 at American Legion Post #241, 7605 Bluffton Road from 12noon to 6pm. Chicken Dinner/Fries $6.50. 50/50 Raffle, Tip Boards, Karaoke, Silent Auction, Bike Show – 1st, 2nd, 3rd Place with a $3 entry fee. Trophies donated by Sportmart. American Legion Riders – Indiana Chapter.
QUIET WARRIORS CHAPTER OF K.W.V.A.
We will be meeting this month on Sept. 6th at Waynewood Inn, 8421 Bluffton Rd., Ft. Wayne, IN. Breakfast is at 9:30 a.m. and the meeting will follow. Any Korean War Veteran is welcome to join us and meet others who served during the Korean War Era. KOREAN WAR VETERANS ASSOCIATION INDIANA CHAPTER ONE MEETING
The KWVA Indiana Chapter One will hold their monthly meeting on September 13th at the American Legion Post 82, on Harris Road. First nominations of officers for 2004 will be held at this time. Come and bring your spouses and friends and join your fellow Veterans.
KOREAN WAR VETERANS ASSOCIATION INDIANA CHAPTER ONE PROGRAM AVAILABLE
The Korean War Veterans Assn. Indiana Chapter One has a wonderful ‘Tell America Program’ and would like to present it to your school students. They want to tell about the Korean War so that it will no longer be referred to as the “Forgotten War.” They can also give information on the special Holidays (July 4th, Memorial Day, and most important Veterans Day) and how they originated. VETERANS MEMORIAL SERVICE
The Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center formerly know as the VA Hospital, 2121 Lake Ave., Ft. Wayne, IN, will be having a Memorial Service in honor of those Veterans who have passed away in the past 3 months or so.‑ If you know of a Veteran’s name to submit, please call it in to: (260) 426-5431, Ext. – 1413, and it will be read in a Bell Service during the Memorial Service.‑ All are welcome to attend. The Anthony Wayne Chapter of the Reserve Officers Association of the United States will meet at 12 noon, Monday, September 22, 2003 at the “Shrine”, 407 West Berry Street. Men and women who have served as officers in any of the Armed Forces of the United States will enjoy hearing Mr. John Wearly speak of his WWII experiences (Battle of the Bulge) and the WWII memorial that is nearing completion in Washington, D.C. ABOUT OUR NATIONAL ANTHEM – THE STAR-SPANGLED BANNER
Question: Is there a specific version of the National Anthem, which must be played?
Answer: No. The American Legion recommends however, that the National Anthem subtitled “Service Version” written in the key of A-flat be utilized for general mass singing by adults and for band, or other instrumental performances.
Question: Are rock versions of the National Anthem appropriate?
Answer: Although not a violation of any prescribed law, The American Legion is opposed to these renditions and encourages the use of the “Service Version” played and sung in a traditional manner.
Question: What is the proper conduct during the playing of the National Anthem?
Answer: During rendition of the national anthem, when the flag is displayed, all present except those in uniform should stand at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart. Men not in uniform should remove their headdress with their right hand and hold it at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart. Persons in uniform should render the military salute at the first note of the Anthem and retain this position until the last note.
When the flag is not displayed, those present should face toward the music and act in the same manner.
