INDIANA REGIONAL EDUCATIONAL CENTER FOR COMMUNITY POLICING
The IRECCP announces that “Professionalism in Community Policing” will be offered on Tuesday, August 19, 2003 at the Southwest Fire District Training Center, 7001 Old Trail Road, from 8am to 4pm. This interactive program will focus on shared values and objectives, which include respect, integrity, fairness, trust, responsibility and commitment to service as well as diversity. This program is designed to promote mutual understanding between law enforcement and community members. The class is offered free of charge and all materials are provided for the class. Community members are strongly encouraged to participate in this program. The IRECCP exists to promote and provide comprehensive and innovative policing educational strategies for law enforcement agencies and the community, for the purpose of enhancing the quality of community life throughout the Indiana region. CHARITY BOWL-A-THON
The West Allen County Chapter of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans is sponsoring a Charity Bowl-A-Thon on August 23, 2003 at 6pm at the Village Bowl, 1710 Bluffton Road to raise donations for households in southwest Fort Wayne whose primary wage-earners have become unemployed, laid-off, or have had their income reduced. CONCERT – ‘THE FAMILY THAT PLAYS TOGETHER’
The Mossbergs will present a concert at the Living Faith Missionary Church, 17718 State Road 1, Yoder, Indiana on Sunday evening, August 24, 2003. The four brothers and sister have placed second as well as being the grand champions at the State Fair talent show. Ranging in age from 8 to 14, they have performed with symphony orchestras, at weddings, retirement homes, in parks and churches in five states. The public is invited to share in this evening of praise and blessing. A free-will offering will be taken to assist the family with the cost of lessons, music, and travel. 9TH ANNUAL LEIGHANN PALMER FOUNDATION GOLF OUTING – SEPTEMBER 7, 2003
Proceeds go to the scholarship fund in remembrance of LeighAnn Palmer; one scholarship to a Bishop Luers Senior Cheerleader going to college and one scholarship to an 8th grade girl at St. Therese going to Bishop Luers. Mo Korte was the recipient for the Bishop Luers scholarship and Sarah Freiburger was the St. Therese scholarship winner. Proceeds also go to various charitable organizations that benefit children. ANNUAL INDIANA MASONIC HOME PILGRIMAGE/FESTIVAL
The Indiana Masonic Home in Franklin will host their 56th Annual Pilgrimage/Festival on Sunday, August 24, 2003. Skydivers will parachute into the circle at 11am as part of the opening ceremony. The Little Nashville Opry Band from Nashville, Indiana will perform from 1-2:30pm on the main stage. There’s a chance Elvis will be with them. Saturday night August 23, 2003 and all day Sunday there will be a civil war encampment and reenactment as part of the program. Guests will enjoy live entertainment throughout the day, plus various craft displays and other interesting demonstrations. Radio station WFMS will broadcast live at noon. Visitors will also have a large selection of foods to choose from. Breakfast may be purchased from 7-9:30am. In addition there will be tours of the ground/facilities and a parade. The program is free and open to the public with lots of free parking. AUGUST REGISTRATION FOR HOLY SCRIPTURE SCHOOL
Holy Scripture School will be having an Orientation Meeting on Tuesday, August 19, 2003 at 7pm to introduce the teachers, explore the classrooms, and go over the handbook and receive important paperwork. The new school year starts on September 2nd. Holy Scripture School is taking late registrations for two-and three-day preschool, four-day Pre-K and five-day (morning) Kindergarten. Those are the words coming from the Commander at Post #296 in Fort Wayne. As many of you know, Post #296 was submerged in water about 18 inches deep as a result of the flooding in early July. To provide some necessary monetary help that is so badly needed at this time, Voiture #37 of the 40&8 is hosting a fundraiser on Saturday, August 16 and Sunday, August 17 from 12noon to 5pm each day at 7301 Old Decatur Road. On these two days Voiture #37 will be serving HAMBURGERS AND FRENCH FRIES FOR $5.00. All net proceeds will go to Post #296 to help pay for the renovations. WAYNEDALE NUDISTS TO MEET
The Waynedale Nudist Club – TANNIN’ BOTTOM – will be meeting on Wednesday, August 27, 2003 at 5:47pm. Please bring a dish to share. Servers are again asked to wear aprons! AIR RIFLE/.22 RIFLE TRAINING OFFERED THIS FALL
Air Rifle will meet at the Allen County Fairgrounds on Wednesday evenings, beginning September 3, 2003. It will meet for a total of 10 weeks. Time will be from 6-8pm. Equipment will be furnished. Registration fee will be $20 per member. Air Rifle is open to all youth in grades 3-12. There is a maximum registration of 12 participants.
.22 Rifle will meet at the Concordia Lutheran High School on Wednesday evenings, beginning in October. Time will be from 6:30pm to 8:30pm. Equipment will be furnished. Registration fee will be $20 per member. .22 Rifle will be open to all youth in grades 5-12. There is a maximum registration of 30 participants.

65TH ANNUAL POE FIREMAN’S FESTIVAL
The Poe Community Volunteer Fire Department of Poe, Indiana will be celebrating its 65th Annual Fireman’s Festival, August 22nd and 23rd, 2003.
Activities will start Friday, August 22nd at 5:30pm with a Benefit Auction with items donated by area merchants and the community featuring a handmade quilt 90×110 of Embroidery Antique Roses with throw pillows to match made by the Poe Community Ladies. There will also be bingo and a variety of games with food and refreshments available.
Saturday schedule will include Backyard Volleyball at 9am, horseshoes at 10am, waterball competition at 12noon (signup at 11am), chicken BBQ dinner from 11am to 7pm, Euchre tournament from 12noon till 3pm, kiddie tractor pull at 2pm, New Haven Alumni Band performing at 4pm, Waynedale LTD Dancers at 5:30pm, raffle drawing at 10pm, and dance to the Bel Airs 50”s style from 8pm to 11pm. Both days will feature Pork & Sauerkraut – Food – Beer Tent – Kids Games – Bingo – Country Store – Carmel Corn – Elephant ears – Refreshments – Moon Walk with a free kids drawing every hour. Plenty of Free Parking available – bring the whole family. We’re located in Poe, Indiana, where Winchester Road and Yoder Road cross.

NIGHT HIKE AT FOX ISLAND
Fox Island is rich in history and natural beauty. It also has clear starlit and moonlit skies at night. Join an Allen County Parks’ Naturalist as we explore the past, present, and future of the park while learning about nocturnal animals and celestial objects overhead on a summer night hike. Dress for the weather – we won’t let a little rain stop us. Flashlights are optional, and will not be used on the hike. Insect repellent needed! WAYNEDALE PRESCHOOL BEGINS FALL CLASSES
The Weekday Preschool educational program of the Waynedale United Methodist Church located at 2501 Church Street will begin on September 4th. The school will host an Open House Orientation on Wednesday, August 27th at 7pm for parents.
The school has been serving the Waynedale area since 1961. The program offers opportunities for development through social group play, language development, introduction to academics, chapel time, music, games, stories, puppets, creative activities, movement education, and outside play.
Registration is currently being accepted for children ages two, three, four, and five. Additional information concerning the school may be obtained by calling the church office, 747-7424 or the director, Sally Parkison at 432-4490.

 

WAYNEDALE COMMUNITY PICNIC IN THE PARK

In conjunction with the Waynedale area businesses and the local neighborhood associations, we come together with pride to support our Waynedale community on Saturday, August 30, 2003 from 10am to 2pm at Waynedale Memorial Park. Go 2 blocks west of the Waynedale Post Office or you may also reach the park from Lower Huntington Road by turning south on Elzey Street or Beaty Avenue.

Come on out and enjoy visiting with old friends while making new ones. There will be food, beverages, door prizes, games, and prizes for the children along with a moonwalk and a fantastic clown to entertain the young at heart. Officer Wiley (our Waynedale Marshal) will be the DJ.

 

We are in need of donations like: monetary for food, gift items and or certificates. Please help us bring together our community for an old fashioned PICNIC ON THE GREEN.
