A DAY OF UNITY
We, the Veterans of Allen County, would like to invite the families of ALL Military personnel deployed in the DEFENSE of our FREEDOMS and LIBERTIES, to a day of FUN & RECOGNITION. Refreshments will be furnished. It will take place at the Veterans’ National Memorial Shrine on O’Day Road here in Fort Wayne. It will be held on Saturday, May 24, 2003 from 11am until ???? There will be a Special Program at 2pm with entertainment by the Kimmy Dean Show from 4pm until 7:30pm.
KOREAN WAR VETERANS ASSOCIATION INDIANA CHAPTER ONE
The KWVA Chapter One will be taking a bus trip to Washington, D.C. to celebrate the 50th year Anniversary of the truce of the Korean War. The dates are from July 22nd thru July 28th. We will be visiting many patriotic and historical places as well as doing many other fun things. Come and travel with us and join the fun! KOREAN WAR VETERANS ASSOCIATION INDIANA CHAPTER ONE
The monthly meeting of the KWVA will be held on May 10th at the American Legion Post 82 on Harris Road. Meeting begins at 9am prompt with breakfast and social hour at 7am. Bring your spouse and a friend and join your fellow veterans.

Come on down to the Post on Thursday Nights and sing & dance with J&R Karaoke from 7:30pm to 11:30pm – Eat Coney Dogs for 75 cents.

COMING EVENTS – MAY- Scholarship information available for college and trade schools – Flag Burning (May 24th bratwurst after ceremony – Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 26, 2003. Waynedale Daze will take place in Waynedale Park right after the parade.
Question – What happens to old flags once they’ve become unserviceable?
Answer – When a flag becomes dirty, torn, and unserviceable it should be destroyed by burning.
Question – What is the procedure?
Answer – The ‘code’ suggests that, “When a flag has served its useful purpose, it should be destroyed by burning and it should be done discreetly by individual citizens so as not to be perceived as a protest or desecration. Many American Legion posts conduct Disposal of Unserviceable Flag Ceremonies on June 14 (Flag Day) each year. This ceremony crates a particularly dignified and solemn occasion for the retirement of unserviceable flags.
ANNUAL WAYNEDALE PARADE AND WAYNEDALE DAZE
Post #241 is the Host Post this year. The parade will be held on Monday, May 26, 2003. The parade starts at 9am. Waynedale Daze festivities will be held in the Waynedale MEMORIAL Park after the parade. There will be games for the kids and food and beverages will be available. There are other surprises planned.
MEMORIAL DAY – PATRIOTISM IS IN EACH OF US – (Taken from NATIONAL UPDATE – a S.A.L. publication) When we gather together on Memorial Day to celebrate the lives of our country’s departed service men and women we have a chance to share our personal reflections of our departed loved ones and share in a collected memorial service through our nation. Remember, patriotism is alive in the hearts and minds of our citizens today and should be continually renewed. Those that offered up their lives in service and in sacrifice to our country: WWI-30,000, WWII-235,000, Korea-142,000, Vietnam-56,000, Persian Gulf War-300, and September 11-3,000. Let us not forget.
