LOCAL STUDENT WRITES ABOUT RETIREMENT COMMUNITY RESIDENTS
VU graduate student Megan Roby of Fort Wayne contributed to a book about the residents of Pines Valley Retirement Communities in Valparaiso. Students in an Intermediate Composition class taught by Dr. Kathleen Mullen, associate professor of English at VU, each profiled a resident of the retirement community. Each chapter of the book “We Celebrate Life” is written by a student and is a biography and essay about a member of the community. The book is a project to help celebrate the community’s 20th anniversary and will go on sale May 5 at the facility. Megan Roby received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Valparaiso University in 2002. She is the daughter of Gerald and Sandy Roby of Fort Wayne.

LOCAL STUDENT SELECTED TO ATTEND NATIONAL STUDENT LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE
BLHS is proud to announce that Molly Rowan, a junior, has been selected to participate in the National Student Leadership Conference on Law and Advocacy. The Trial is an extraordinary leadership development program for outstanding high school students. This summer, approximately 1500 gifted high school students from across the United States and from 45 countries around the world will find themselves immersed in a learning environment unlike any they have ever experienced. These young leaders will return to their schools with increased potential and newly developed abilities that enable them to make a positive difference in their communities.

Elizabeth Edington will receive a Burger King Scholars Award for continuing education. Gerald O. Fitzpatrick, Senior Vice-President of Burger King said, “Elizabeth Edington is a worthy recipient of the scholarships based on her academic achievements, community service, and part-time employment.

CHS STUDENT RECEIVES BURGER KING SCHOLARS AWARD
Quality dining, Inc. announced today that Canterbury High School student Rachel Kantner will receive a Burger King Scholars Award for continuing education. To qualify for a scholarship a high school senior must maintain at least a 2.5 GPA, work part-time, be involved in co-curricular and /or community services activities, and demonstrate financial need. “We are thrilled to honor hard-working students with a Burger King Scholars Award said Gerald O. Fitzpatrick, Senior Vice-President of Burger King Operations at Quality Dining, Inc., and Rachel Kantner is a worthy recipient of the scholarships based on her academic achievements, community service, and part-time employment.”

YOST TO RETIRE FROM TUFWC AFTER 20 YEARS OF SERVICE
AWARDED SAGAMORE OF THE WABASH
After 20 years at Taylor University, Dr. Daryl Yost announced his retirement as a senior officer, effective May 31, 2003. Taylor will honor Dr. Daryl Yost at a retirement reception, May 21, 2003 (1:30pm to 3:30pm) in the Eicher Student Commons, Private Dining Rooms. The public is invited to attend. Dr. Yost and his wife, Joenita, will continue to reside in the Fort Wayne area.
Dr. Daryl Yost, executive vice president of the University and chief operating officer of the Fort Wayne campus was honored as a Sagamore of the Wabash at Taylor University’s Board of Trustees May board meetings, May 8, 2003. It was bestowed on Yost for his service to the University and the City of Fort Wayne. It is the highest honor that can be given by the Governor.
