TUFWC Writing Program Rated Top In Nation

TUFWC has been ranked the number one professional writing program for Christian and secular colleges in America for 2002 by THE CHRISTIAN COMMUNICATOR magazine. “All graduates of the program are employed; current students are getting published in a wide variety of periodicals; and seldom does a semester go by without a student from TUFWC winning some sort of national writing award,” magazine writers Belinda S. Ayers and Kenisah Bethea noted in the January 2003 feature article.

“It’s very gratifying to have our program chosen as the leading writing program for college students,” said Dr. Dennis E. Hensley, director of TUFWC’s professional writing major. “We strive to deliver quality, pragmatic training in writing in all of our courses. Students come here from all over the world to develop their skills as authors and journalists and poets. Our success is measured by their success. To that end, this recognition is really an honor for the students.”

The professional writing major was initiated at TUFWC in the fall of 1997. It began with just two students. Today, 53 students are majoring in professional writing and dozens of others are attending writing classes as part-time noncredit students at TUFWC.
