SCOUTING SMOKE SIGNALS
TAKEN FROM A LETTER TO THE PARENTS OF BOY SCOUTS
Because of the great concern the Boy Scouts of America has for the problem of child abuse in our society, the Youth Protection Program has been developed to help safeguard both our youth and adult members. Both registered leaders and registered Scouts of Troops are required to periodically take Youth Protection training offered under this program.
Both published and videotape materials have been prepared to educate about child abuse-how to avoid it, how to identify it, and how to deal with it. This training program has been designed to give parents and their children basic information that will increase their awareness and sense of personal power to assist in their own self-protection.
Troop 38, sponsored by Calvary United Methodist Church, 6301 Winchester Road, will hold Youth Protection training for all registered leaders (and other interested adults in the area) during the Troop committee meeting at the church on Wednesday, October 9, 2002. The youth training will be held at the church on Monday, October 14, 2002 from 7pm to 8:30pm in two sessions: “A Time To Tell” for 11 to 14 year-old boys and “Personal Safety Awareness” designed for boys in the 11-20 year-old range. You are invited to attend both the adult and the youth training. Training will be conducted by Assistant Scoutmaster Dave Turpchinoff and Miami District Executive Dave Kinnee. Should you have any questions, please contact Dave Turpchinoff at 486-1879 or Scoutmaster Jerry Lloyd at 436-6376.
