POST #2868 VISITS AIR FORCE TRAINING SCHOOL
7 April 2002-Lackland Air Force Base, TX-Members and adult advisors of Explorer Post 2868, the 122nd Fighter Wing Career Exploring Program, visited the Air Force Basic Military Training School at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas recently to assist in conducting Basic Training as a post activity later this fall.
Explorer Colonel Gary L Goldsberry, Jr and Explorer Master Sergeant Jeremy Armstrong, along with Advisor Staff Sergeant Tony Vining and Mrs. Becky Lewis, traveled to Lackland AFB on Thursday, April 4th to the base in San Antonio, Texas.
There, the members met with Associate Advisor Daniel Lewis, who was graduating Basic Training, and watched the Basic Training in action; viewing trainees in stages from Day One through Post-Graduate technical trainees.
In addition, the members visited Retreat Ceremonies, military parade, BMTS dormitory inspections, the USO, and Downtown San Antonio during the visit.
“This trip was very important for our upcoming Basic Training Scenario” said SSgt Vining. “These members learned a lot about the military and what it takes to become an Airman. When we begin planning our scenario, it will be more realistic, because I will have the input of youth members who have seen the real thing in action.”
Shortly after the trip, E/MSgt Armstrong entered Basic Training with the US Marine Corps. His entry to the USMC was planned for later this year, but due to current conditions, he was called early.
The trip was made possible by donations from the Anthony Wayne Area Council, American Legion Post 241, and Sons of the American Legion Squadron 160.
