AMERICAN LEGION POST #241 NEWS

Chester Gwozdz, Sergeant At Arms, American Legion Post 241 recently visited THE WAYNEDALE NEWS and told us that Post 241 Commander Charles Rathsack recently sent him and Jim Arter, Past S.A.L. Commander Post 82 on a mission to deliver a total of 142 brand new sweat shirts to the Indiana Veterans’ Home in West LaFayette, Indiana (36), the Soldiers’/Sailors’ Children Orphan Home, Knightstown, Indiana (36), and to the Navy Mothers’ Club #180 – Toledo, Ohio (70).
The Navy Mothers’ Club will divide their sweatshirts among: the Ohio Veterans’ Home – Sandusky, Ohio; the VFW Veterans’ Home – Ann Arbor, Michigan; and the VFW Children’s’ Home – Eaton Rapids, Michigan. When asked about the person or persons who made this generous donation and what their value would be, Chester would only say that, “. . . a leading area distributor donated the sweatshirts to the post.” Chester did admit that “. . . these sweatshirts along with some other shirts that were donated and delivered by the Post were estimated to be worth around $5,000, if they were sold at their retail value.
While he was at it, Chester volunteered the information that, “. . . Lucille Keeton, current President of Navy Club #180 – Toledo, Ohio is 90 years old and has been writing a newspaper column for 56 years (since 1946), promoting, our boys in the service.” He said that her weekly column appears in the ROSSFORD RECORD JOURNAL, a paper published in Rossford, a town near Toledo. She can be reached at 163 Elm Street, Rossford, Ohio – 43460 if anyone would want to drop her a line.
