BLOCKS=BABIES
One day Lila was at school. Her best friend Laura was playing with blocks. Lila said, “Laura may I join you?” And Laura said, “Sure.” All the sudden Zoe (pronunciation Zo-ey) jumped into the beanbag. “You girls…” she said, “We’re in kindergarten now. Are you sure you should be playing with blocks?”
The girls didn’t know what to say. They had always loved playing with blocks. “ Zoe, sorry, but we like playing with these blocks. And I think even first graders play with blocks too,” said Lila. But Zoe said, “Well, think what you want, but my motto is Blocks=Babies.” This made the girls feel very sad. So they poured the blocks back into the container. When the girls went home, they wanted to play with their own blocks, but they just sighed. The next day at school they decided they would play with the blocks, but when Zoe got there, they would pour them back. But, this didn’t work and the girls were all caught. Zoe gave them a whole different lecture. For about a week, none of the girls ever played with blocks. Not at home, not at school, not at friends, and not at the park. One day all the girls decided that they would tell Zoe to stop being mean and they were going to play with blocks.
All the girls woke up in the morning and were ready to go to school ready to talk to Zoe. But when they got there… Zoe was making a castle… out of blocks! But the girls said nothing, instead they told Zoe not to explain… And they started to help Zoe finish her castle. They seemed to understand that playing can be done at any age. Growing up doesn’t require giving up things you love just because of the age you are. Playing with blocks when you are little can lead to your being an architect when you grow up!
