YOU CAN CHANGE THE HUNTING/FISHING/TRAPPING AND OTHER WILDLIFE REGULATIONS
2003-2004 Open House Rule Change
Let Indiana’s fish and wildlife managers know what you think by attending one of the open house meetings. You will be able to comment and suggest changes to hunting, trapping, fishing, and other wildlife-associated regulations. Some regulations that they will be reviewing are those pertaining to dogs running on public and private land, nuisance coyotes, deer hunting equipment, fish size limits, and confined hunting. Comments can be submitted online at www.in.gov/dnr/fishwild/about/rules.htm. Look online for the open house meetings nearest you. Now is the time to present you views on things like: increased license fees, decreased trout limits from 10 to 5, squirrel season opening in August when mother squirrels are still nursing their young, bass limit and size, turkey hunting sign-up lists in the state parks, no antlerless deer permits to be used in state owned areas (example: Salamonie, Huntington Reservoir, etc).
It’s your tax money, it’s your license money, it’s your state, it’s your game, it’s your fish, it’s your business, it’s your wildlife; why not help make the rules?
FORT WAYNE FISHING DERBY
The Sixth Annual Fort Wayne Community Fishing Derby will be held Friday, May 30, to Sunday, June 1, 2003 (Friday & Saturday – 8am to 7:30pm and Sunday from 2pm to 5pm), at the old Reservoir Pond at Creighton Street and South Clinton Street. The derby is held to introduce young people to fishing, to accept applications for our summer youth fishing program, and to encourage further user-friendly improvements at the Larez Park.
MISSION STATEMENT
The Fort Wayne Community Fishing Club is a proud group of civic-minded sportsmen and women who are committed to establishing a yearly family oriented fishing derby at the Reservoir/Larez reflective pool, as well as a youth centered summer fishing program. Utilizing a mentor relationship, caring adults/experienced anglers, teach life skill lessons associated with fishing and offer adventurous outdoor activity to diverse children/youth as an alternative to their potential involvement in risky behavior. We strive to improve the user-friendly capability of Larez Park and restore the existing reflecting pool to a pond.
WAYNEDALE NEWS GIVING AWAY APPROXIMATELY 100 FISHING POLES
THE WAYNEDALE NEWS will be giving away approximately 100 fishin’ poles again this year during WAYNEDALE DAZE in Waynedale Memorial Park right after the Memorial Day parade. THE WAYNEDALE NEWS started the tradition of giving away ‘ready to fish with’ bamboo poles to the children of Waynedale in order to draw families closer together by encouraging the grownups to spend more quality time with their children. The poles come complete with line, bobber, hook, and sinker. All you have to do is buy or dig some worms and “. . . go fishin’.” Ok now that you parents have accepted the free fishin’ poles for your children, “TAKE YOUR KID/KIDS FISHIN’.
INDIANA’S FREE FISHING WEEKEND IS JUNE 7-8
Load up the car with friends, family and fishing poles this June 7-8 and enjoy a free weekend of fishing. Indiana resident adults do not need a fishing license to fish on public waters during Free Fishing Weekend. Children under the age of 17 do not need a license at any time.
To celebrate Free Fishing Weekend, many parks, reservoirs, fish and wildlife areas and recreation areas are planning fun fishing derbies, clinics and fish cleaning and cooking classes. Some properties require pre-registration. Call your favorite property for details.
FISHING LICENSE
Although no fishing license is required by adults on Free Fishing Weekend, all other fishing regulations are still in effect. YOUTH AGES 17 AND UNDER DO NOT NEED A FISHING LICENSE TO FISH IN INIDANA AT ANY TIME.
