BLUE STAR HONOR
On Saturday, May 21, 2005 David Parrish American Legion Post #296 hosted military personnel and their families for the Armed Forces Day-Blue Star Salute. Colors were posted by Post #296 Color Guard Unit and prayer was offered.
The day’s events included guest speakers Tom Hayhurst and George Jarboe. A few words were shared by CW4 Donald Edgar and First Sergeant Peter Doak of the Army Reserve Unit 221st Ordinance both members of our armed forces.
Blue Star Banners (both 1 and 2 stars) and family certificates were presented to military personnel and family members. Military personnel represented the Air Force, Army and Navy.
The day’s activities included paintings by artist Susie Williams, coloring books for the children, flag etiquette books, Atz coupons, stickers and tattoos. Entertainment was provided by magician Jarrad Mason. An appearance by Black Jack from the 40@8 Club and a restored Jeep owned by Walt Azar were also on display for the guests to enjoy.
The story of the Flander’s Day Poppy was a fitting closure to the Blue Star program.
This was a day of Honor for our Armed Forces and their families. Door prizes were presented to many of our guests and everyone who attended received a red poppy from the American Legion Post #296 Auxiliary Unit.
While driving through your community if you see a Blue Star displayed in a window you will know this home has a family member in the military armed forces. Any individual who is eligible for a banner, may call 414-6639 for additional information.
