GOLDEN WEDDING
Just fifty years ago today
They were wed, a man and a maid.
Strong beat their hearts with faith and joy.
They loved and were not afraid.
They trod the primrose path of youth
From altar to the sea,
Where they sailed away on the good ship hope
Seeking their destiny.
The ship sailed on the shadows came
And lingered around their door.
The sun shown forth and scattered them.
They were happy as before.
God gave them little ones to bless their home.
Their lives seemed now complete;
For who has heard a more pleasant sound
Than the patter of baby feet?
The years have flown, their young have grown
And gone to seek their own.
The ship now sales on tranquil seas.
The prize they sought, they won.
The ship sails on, still staunch and strong
Through mild September weather.
They are sailing toward the setting sun.
They are sailing home together.
