The children of Mount Calvary Lutheran Child Care’s school-age summer program are taking the words of Genesis to heart:  “The Lord commanded man to take care of the land.”

During their recent “green” week, the group collected close to 18 lbs of trash on their “trash walk” down Reservation Drive in Waynedale. The trash walk came as a result of a field trip to OmniSource where the group learned about the recycling of scrap metal.

They were amazed at the large electro magnets pulling tons of scrap metal up into the air and the giant claws picking up piles of crushed cars.

The week focused on what the children can do around their own home and neighborhoods to help conserve energy and water and to recycle. Other activities included making recycled paper out of scrap paper with a blender and creating art activities with recycled products. The children’s message to Fort Wayne:  “Keep our city clean!  DON’T LITTER!
