3 COUGARS ON FOOTBALL GAZETTE PRE-SEASON AA TEAM
Brian Kurtz, William Knepper and Paul Carter have been named to the Don Hansen Football Gazette Pre-Season All-American Team.
Kurtz (Fort Wayne, IN / Bishop Luers H.S.) earned NAIA All-American first team selection for his efforts at inside linebacker for the University of Saint Francis as a junior in 2005. The 6-foot-1, 220-pound senior is the leading returning tackler for the Cougars (49 solo, 57 assists).
Carter (Indianapolis, IN / Northwest H.S.) tied for the lead in NAIA national stats with a USF record-tying nine interceptions. He returned two interceptions for TDs in 2005 including a school-record 100-yards against Walsh University.
Knepper (Warsaw, IN / Warsaw H.S.) finished the 2005 season as a first-team NAIA All-American as a sophomore. The 6-3, 324-pound interior lineman is No. 3 among returning tacklers for 2006 collecting 54 total (solo 22, assists 32) in 14 games for USF in 2005.
The Cougars, who report for practice on Aug. 16, open their ninth campaign on Sept. 9 at William Penn University in Oskaloosa, Iowa. USF opens its six-game home schedule on Sept. 16 against Pikeville College (Pikeville, Ky.) at noon.
