IPFW SCIENTIST SERIES
Mastodons, model airplanes, marine life, oh my! Eight Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW) faculty members from various science-related departments will present fun and informative hands-on sessions on these topics and more for the 2007-08 Lunch with an IPFW Scientist Series. The season runs October 2007 through May 2008, with sessions on the second Saturday of each month at 11:30 a.m. at Science Central.
The Science Central Lunch with an IPFW Scientist Series is designed for families with young people, ages 8 and up and plants in both the young and most seasoned participant a budding interest in science. Those who attend are able to see first hand how various scientific processes work. After each presentation, which includes a hands-on activity, participants enjoy lunch with the presenter.
Presenters and topics for this years series are as follows:
Oct. 13, 2007, “Up, Up, and Away: Indoor Model Airplanes,” David Erbach, Professor of Computer Science
Nov. 10, 2007, “Hunting Indiana’s Ice Age Big Game,” James Farlow, professor of geology
Dec. 8, 2007, “CSI Fort Wayne,” Karen Berka Bruewer, limited term lecturer in the Division of Public and Environmental Affairs
Jan. 12, 2008, “Engineers to Be: Let’s Design a Bridge!” Suleiman Ashur, associate professor of civil engineering
Feb. 9, 2008, “The Biggest Turtle You Never Eat,” Frank Paladino, IPFW Jack W. Schrey Distinguished Professor of Biology
March 8, 2008, “It’s Not Magic, It’s Chemistry!” Art Friedel, professor emeritus of chemistry
April 12, 2008, “Chemistry and the Artist’s Palette,” Michael Columbia, associate professor of chemistry
May 10, 2008, “Flowers, More Than Just a Pretty Face,” Michael Bosella, associate professor of biology
