NEW SUPPORT GROUP FOR PET LOSS GRIEF
Our pets become part of the family over the years, and when one dies, the sadness family members feel can be overwhelming. Yet people are often ashamed that they are grieving, and many downplay the loss, thinking “it’s only a pet.” But the loss of a beloved pet can affect the entire family. Sharing your story with others who are experiencing the same grief can help ease your pain.
Visiting Nurse is pleased to present a new Pet Loss Support Group, beginning Sept. 19. The group will be held the third Wednesday of each month from 5:30-7 p.m. at the Peggy F. Murphy Community Grief Center, 5920 Homestead Road, on the Visiting Nurse campus in Fort Wayne. Adults and children are welcome to attend.
Led by trained grief facilitators, attendees to the Pet Loss Support Group will have a place to share their feelings of grief and loss, and they will gain tools to help cope with the loss of their beloved pet. David Wust, Bereavement Coordinator for Visiting Nurse and the Community Grief Center, said “there is finally somewhere to go to find help in going through the grief process in a safe space with people who are experiencing similar circumstances.”
