FIVE FEATURE WINNERS HIGHLIGHT EMMA WAREHOUSE NIGHT AT THE BAER FIELD SPEEDWAY RACES

Baer Field hutsonAfter a weekend off due to Mother Nature, the New Baer Field Speedway was back in action over the afternoon of Saturday, May 2nd as the Fort Wayne Transmission ‘Hot 5’ Weekly Racing Series divisions were back on the track. The quest for the 2015 Track Championships continued on a bright and sunny afternoon in Fort Wayne, Indiana and the fast 3/8s (0.375) mile semi-banked paved oval was chalk full of exciting racing action in front of a rambunctious crowd on hand throughout the day.

The first Feature of the day would be for the Afdent Dentistry Mini Stocks who kicked things off with their 20-lap Feature. Brad McBride would be the driver pulling into victory lane in his #90 McBride & Sons Welding / Ford after pulling into Grote Automotive victory lane for his second Feature win of the season. The 61-year-old Decatur, Indiana veteran would be followed by Ryan Spillers, Rob Nave, John Puff and James Keller were the top five. Matt Morton would score the Afdent Dentistry Fast Qualifier Award with an 18.297 while Nave and current points leader, Mike Mayes won Heats.

The Kings John Services Street Stocks were up next for their 25-lap Feature as The Kings John Services Street Stocks were up next for their 25 lap Feature. Doug Chilcutt would start on the outside of the front row in his #6 R.P.M. Trucking / Chevrolet and the Hudson, Indiana veteran would hold off all comers to score his first Feature victory of the 2015 racing season. The 61-year-old held off a late charge from Defending Track Champion, Brian Janes while current points leader, 15-year-old Austin Coe, Randy Trunks and Frank Casagrande completed the top five. Coe won the Kings John Services Fast Qualifier Award with a lap measured at a 17.844 and won his Heat. Bobby Comer won the other Heat race.

The featured division of the afternoon would be the tracks sponsored division of the day; the Emma Warehouse Modifieds 30-lap main would roll out next. Two Time Defending Track Champion, Scott Coe would make it three for three to start the new season. The 50-year-old driver of his #28 Coe Heating & Air Conditioning entry would hold off Todd Bennett for the second week in a row to give the Fort Wayne, Indiana veteran an early season cushion in the chase for the 2015 Track Championship. Bennett was the runner-up while James Krueger, Former Track Champion, Johnny Gatton Jr., and Mike Bufink rounded out the top five. Coe also won his third straight Emma Warehouse Fast Qualifier Award with a 16.140 while Bufink and Herb Johnson Jr., picked up the Heat Race victories.

As for the AR Bodies Late Model Sportsman 30-lap Feature, it was a hard fought battle that went caution free and when all was said and done, Fort Wayne, Indiana driver, Billy Hutson, a former Track Champion at BFS, going to Grote Automotive Victory Lane for the first time in eight seasons. The 32-year-old driver of the #00 Direct Flow Services / Chevrolet fought off a determined Terry Fisher Jr., the opening night Feature winner and Five-Time and Defending Track Champion as well as current points leader, Tommy Cook to score his first Feature win since the 2007 season. Fisher Jr., and Cook completed the podium while Eric Barcus and 2011 Track Champion, Dean Cook rounded out the top five. Fisher Jr., collected the AR Bodies Fast Qualifier Award with a 16.259 while D. Cook and 2007 Track Champion, Chad Richardson were the Heat race victors.

To close out the day of racing, the Grote Automotive Compacts would be the final Feature of the afternoon. In their 15-lap main event, current points leader, Chip Heintzelman pulled into Grote Automotive Victory Lane in his #54 Chip’s Auto Repair / Honda to extend his early season lead in the standings. The 35-year-old Fort Wayne, Indiana native would take home his first Feature win of the season ahead of Lee Gillingham, Ron Comer Jr., Kenny Spillers, and R.J. Weick who finished out the top five. Gillingham would win the Grote Automotive Fast Qualifier award with a 19.326 as Heintzelman also won the Heat race.

The first major event of the 2015 racing season will see the return of the Broaster Chicken ICAR Top Speed Modified Tour Southern Division who get the esteemed honors of bringing in their 2015 campaign on the fast outer 1/2 (0.500) mile semi-banked paved oval for the first time since the 2006 racing season. The cars and stars of the Midwest’s premier open-wheeled Modified Tour will race in the running of the Broaster Chicken 50 Presented by Burkett/Nester Racecars.

Also on the card will be the remaining Fort Wayne Transmission ‘Hot 5’ divisions of AR Bodies Late Model Sportsman, Kings John Services Street Stocks, Afdent Dentistry Mini Stocks and Grote Automotive Compacts who will all stay on the adjoining 3/8s (0.375) mile semi-banked paved oval. A total of five great divisions will be in action with special evening starting times in place for the big night. The Pit Gates will be opening at 11:00a.m., Practice starts at 1:00p.m., Grandstands open at 3:00p.m. Qualifying starts at 4:30p.m., and Racing begins at 6:30p.m.

Ticket Prices for Saturday, May 9th are: Grandstands (16 and Over) – $15.00, Kids (10-15) $10.00, Children (9 and Under) – FREE with Pit Passes – $25.00.
