HOW MY PASSIONS IMPACT THE WORLD
How do your Passions Impact the World? Well, the Southside Optimist Club held their annual Oratorical Contest for young students under 19 and heard ten students with outstanding speeches on their passions.
February 18 at Atz’s Restaurant there were seven young ladies sharing, “How My Passions Impact the World,” with our club members. There were some very inspiring, motivational and outstanding speeches. The club awarded medallions and an Optimist portfolio to the top three speakers.
1st place-Aashka Peprottai, 15, a student at Canterbury High School
2nd place-Nicole Winans, 16, a student at East Allen University
3rd place-Grace Bechdal, 12, a student at Canterbury Middle School
The other 4 students that participated were as follows:
Caroline Tsai, 15, Canterbury High School
Aubrey Aust, 14; Beth Ferrier, 13 and Gabrielle Carreon, 14 all Canterbury Middle School students.
The following week February 25, the Southside Optimist Club members were joined with three young men to share their speeches on Passions.
Once again, we were so enlighten to hear more inspiring speeches. All three of these young students attend Canterbury Middle School. The Optimist portfolio and medallions were presented as follows:
1st place-Keenan McArdle, 14
2nd place-Arnie Lal, 14
3rd place-P.J. Parker, 12
Both 1st place winners will continue to the Regional contest on April 13th in Portland. With the Indiana North District Optimist Club holding the final district contest in Marion on April 26 for a chance to win a $2,500 scholarship.
A big THANK YOU goes out Esther Donovan the Historian of the Southside Optimist Club for all her dedication and commitment in organizing this contest.
The Southside Optimist Club was honored to play a role in this wonderful event, and to continue to promote our creed by “bringing out the best in kids.”
