LUERS SWIMS IN SECTIONALS
It was a neck and neck race, each swim was important to a win. Hitting the mark in the end, Homestead out swam Carroll 361 to 356 at the Helen P. Brown Natatorium. This was Homestead’s 17th straight title at the boys swimming sectionals on Saturday, February 19.
Swimming in the South Side Sectional for Bishop Luers was a representative from each class.
Senior Henry Till, junior Alex Miller, sophomore Daniel Colvin and freshman Mark Hellinger made up the relay team. To begin the day’s event they competed in the 200 Yard Medley Relay. In the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay the team finished with a time of 1:46.67 .
The best times for all 4 swimmers happened during sectionals.
“The boys did an excellent job for me this year,” Coach Jeff Siples said. “They worked hard and listened during practice. They were serious. They are each a winner.”
“My leader is definitely Henry. The other boys listen and followed his example. He is a senior this year, we’ll miss him.”
When asked if Coach Siples was going to return, he said, “It’s really a hard decision to make. I love working with the kids. I will miss the coaching aspect. I really don’t know yet.”
