AMERICAN FLAG Q&A
Question:
What should I do when they play the Star Spangled Banner or say the Pledge of Allegiance?
Answer:
First – Face the American Flag, stand at attention, put your left hand down at your side (not in your pocket), and put your hand over your heart. When not in uniform, men should remove their caps/hats with their right hand and hold it at their left shoulder with the hand being over the heart. Persons in uniform should remain silent, face the flag, and render the military salute.
Question:
What should I do with a dirty or torn flag?
Answer:
Dirty flags may be cleaned, slightly torn flags may be mended, but badly torn, or extremely dirty flags should be destroyed in a dignified manner, preferably by burning.
On Saturday, May 29 at 12pm American Legion Post #241, 7605 Bluffton Road in Waynedale, will be holding a flag disposal ceremony. Public is invited to attend. If you have further questions please do not hesitate to contact Post #241 at 747-7851.
