MARINE CORPS PFC. MONICA LYNN BECKSTEDT, daughter of Tom and Linda Beckstedt, recently completed basic training and graduated with honors at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, Shell Point, SC.
Beckstedt successfully completed 12 weeks of training designed to challenge new Marine recruits both physically and mentally. Beckstedt and fellow recruits began their training at 5am by running three miles and performing calisthenics. In addition to the physical conditioning program, Beckstedt spent numerous hours in classroom excelling in academics, field training, leadership, display of patriotism, motivation, tenacity and discipline.
Beckstedt and other recruits also received instruction on the Marine Corps’ core values – honor, courage, and commitment, and what the words mean in guiding personal and professional conduct.
Beckstedt ended the training phase culminated with an emotional ceremony in which the recruits were presented the Marine Corps Emblem, and were addressed as “Marines” for the first time since boot camp began.
Meritoriously she was promoted from Private (E-1) to Private First Class (PFC) right out of recruit training.
Beckstedt also received honors from the 285 Club due to her superior performance and dedication by achieving a score of 296 on the Combat Fitness Test (CFT).
A graduation ceremony was held on February 26, 2010 at Parris Island, Shell Point, SC where Beckstedt graduated with honors due to her high endeavor and superior accomplishment while enrolled in a course of study in professional educational prescribed by the commandant of the Marine Corps.
Beckstedt is a 2008 graduate of South Side High School.
