JASON ARP (R) – 4th District Candidate

As your city councilman over the last few years, I have been your advocate for fiscal sanity, holding the politicians and your local government accountable. I’ve had the privilege to work with residents and neighborhood leaders to resolve infrastructure deficiencies and be a voice for those that need an advocate in dealing with the local government. I’ve been able to help businesses navigate city hall in order to grow and increase good job opportunities in south Fort Wayne.

Working with researchers from the Indiana Policy Review, I was able to put together a coalition that included Councilman Crawford to author and pass legislation to limit the influence of political contributions on the city’s professional service contracting. In the long run, this legislation has the potential to save the city tens of millions of dollars a year.

I’ve had countless opportunities to visit with residents in their homes and on their properties to resolve a variety of issues such as, stormwater problems, sewer issues, incidents with animal control or other city departments. In many of the cases I have been able to work with city departments to provide some relief.

A couple years ago, I, at the request of the Waynedale Business Chamber, was able to put together a group that included Mayor Henry, Allen County Homeland Security, Allen County Commissioners, Fort Wayne Fire Department, Southwest Fire Department and members of the WBC to install a new tornado siren at Old Trail Road. This bi-partisan, cross-jurisdictional cooperation took some time to navigate, but we were able to restore a siren to a location that had been decommissioned decades ago. This is just one example of the some of the work we have been able to accomplish.

One of a councilman’s most important roles is that of steward of the public purse. I have been able to shed some light on the machinations of economic development activities of the city. Many times, projects that use public money for private investments obscure waste or misuse with complexity. It has been one of my goals on council to not only oppose city appropriations to these ventures, but to explain the nature, structure and operation of them to the public in letters to the editor, essays in state-wide policy journals, YouTube videos and Facebook posts. Publisher’s Note: In the interest of public education of local politics and to encourage voting, The Waynedale News offered all of the candidates in the upcoming primary election the opportunity to share their biography and goals for the office that they are running for. This came with the stipulations that they were not allowed to degrade other candidates or current policy, and they were required a minimum advertising budget for The Waynedale News area. Staying true to our non-bias news and positive outlook, we do not endorse or recommend any of the candidates further than any other candidates running for office. But, these are the candidates wanting to be seen by you. Our recommendation is to use these pages as a reference when researching candidates for the upcoming primary election, make educated decisions on who you would like to see in office and most importantly VOTE on May 7 at your predesignated voting location.
