DOROTHY JANE KEHR, 93

, lifelong resident of Fort Wayne, passed away Sunday, January 8, 2017 at Heritage of Fort Wayne. She was born October 6, 1923 to the late Harry and Mary (Gongaware) Stapleton.

She attended Elmhurst High School. Dorothy worked as a homemaker, caring for her family, and also worked at the Jefferson House as a seamstress for 12 years.

She was a warm and gracious person who enjoyed sharing her love of baking with all, and her famous cookies were a highly anticipated part of her hospitality.

“She was just the best,” according to her grandchildren (and everyone else who knew her.)

She is survived by her daughter, Carol (Michael) Gibbs of Fort Wayne; grandchildren, Megan (Christopher) Wiegand of Fort Wayne and Jonathan Gibbs of Utah; and sisters, Gladys Franks of Auburn and Marjorie Winn of Fort Wayne.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Henry A. Kehr in 2000; and siblings, Jack Stapleton, Helen Bland, and Harry Stapleton.

Funeral service was Friday, January 13, 2017 at 11 AM at Elzey-Patterson-Rodak Home for Funerals, 6810 Old Trail Road, Fort Wayne, IN 46809 with visitation one hour prior. Visitation also be on Thursday, January 12, 2017 from 4 to 7 PM at the funeral home. Burial in Prairie Grove Cemetery.
