IRENE A (BECKER) KOEHL, 96

IRENE A (BECKER) KOEHL, 96IRENE A (BECKER) KOEHL, 96, went to walk with her Lord on Sunday, October 19, 2014, in her home, surrounded by her loving family.

Spending all her life in Fort Wayne, she attended St. Peter’s Catholic grade school and graduated from South Side High School. She married Herbert E. Koehl on August 16, 1941. He preceded her in death, in 1998, after 57 blessed years of marriage. She was a leader of the Lucky Stars 4-H Club. She volunteered at St. Therese Church and School, St. Mary’s Soup Kitchen, Meals on Wheels, and RSVP. She loved music and was a member of her church choir, Sweet Adelines and the Southmoor Singers chorus. Before raising her family she worked for Lincoln Life and Harvester. She loved playing bridge, working in her garden and arranging flowers. In recent years, she knotted over 10,000 cord rosaries for missionaries and our military personnel.

She was the loving mother of 12 children.
We feel her loss very deeply.

Surviving are Mike (Pat) Koehl, Frank (Carol) Koehl, Dan (Dorenda) Koehl, Bill (Anne) Koehl, Theresa (Patric) Driscoll, Kathy (Dave Rittenhouse) Schaefer, Dee (Fred Williams) Koehl, Phil (Sheri) Koehl, Patty (Larry) Colchin, Kevin Koehl, and Annette (Steve) Yount; 35 grandchildren and 44 great-grandchildren and counting.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Conrad and Adelia (Hambrock) Becker, daughter Mary Angela, step-father John Becker, brothers Edward Becker & Sylvester (Bud) Becker, step-sisters Helen Follmar and Irma Federspiel, step-brother Raymond Becker, Sons in law Terry Neumann and Steve Yount, daughter in law Vinetta Koehl, and grandchildren Angela Koehl, Nathan Guffey, and Alicia Koehl.

A Mass of Christian Burial was on Saturday, October 25, 2014 at 11:00 am at St. Therese Catholic Church, 2304 Lower Huntington Road, Fort Wayne, IN with visitation 1 hour prior. Visitation also on Friday, October 20, 2014 from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 pm at Elzey-Patterson-Rodak Home For Funerals, 6810 Old Trail Road, Fort Wayne, IN 46809. Burial at Covington Memorial Gardens.

Suggested Memorials to: St. Mary’s Soup Kitchen, Women’s Health Center, Covenant House (for homeless youth), Visiting Nurse and Hospice, or St. Therese Catholic Church.
