ERMA JANET HORINE, 92

ERMA JANET HORINE, 92,ERMA JANET HORINE, 92, went home to the Lord on Tuesday, July 1, 2014. She was born in Allen County, Indiana to the late Alonzo Jeremiah and Clara Minnie (Sweeny) Heckler on September 6, 1921. She was a Spencerville High School graduate, class of 1939, and married Ronald Eugene Horine on December 24, 1939 at the Waynedale United Methodist Church.

Erma worked as a bookkeeper for 47 years, retiring from Coverall Rental Service in 1986. In her earlier years she was active in her children’s activities as a school room mother, Band Parent President, PTA President, Brownie and Girl Scout leader and Cub Scout Den mother. Additionally, she was a Bible study leader, Sunday school teacher, and junior church leader. She enjoyed sewing, bird watching, traveling, and puzzle books.

Erma was a member of the Waynedale United Methodist Church, Waynedale United Methodist Friend’s Circle, and the Purple Iris Red Hat Society.

Surviving are her daughters and son, Donna Jean “dj” (William) Hopkins, Ruth Anne Castor, and James (Brenda) Horine, grandchildren, Trent (Michelle) Castor and Brittany Youmans and great grandchildren, Ashtyn and Chandler Castor, several nephews, nieces, and cousins.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter, Carol; brother, Loren Heckler, and sisters, Adelle Long, Lucy Heckman, and Audrey Prince.

Funeral services were Monday, July 7, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Waynedale United Methodist Church, 2501 Church Street, with visitation 1 hour prior to service. Visitation also from 2:00 to 4:00 & 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Sunday, July 6, 2014 at Elzey-Patterson-Rodak Home For Funerals, 6810 Old Trail Road Fort Wayne, Indiana 46809. Burial at Glenwood Cemetery, Roanoke, Indiana.
