COVENTRY MEADOWS EARS DEFICIENCY – FREE RATING
Coventry Meadows has received a deficiency-free survey by the Indiana State Department of Health, which is now using tough new inspection standards.
Coventry Meadows, located at 7843 West Jefferson Blvd. in Fort Wayne, has received top surveys in the past under the old survey system. However, with the state’s new set of criteria, a deficiency-free achievement is significant. Few nursing communities have received this distinction.
Coventry Meadows Executive Director Craig Kollen said taking good care of residents is a priority for staff and a major reason Coventry Meadows consistently receives good survey scores.
“It is definitely our staff that makes the difference. They take ownership of this building and make it home. They take good care of our residents. The caring comes naturally. For them, it’s not just a job. It’s a calling,” said Kollen.
The new federally-mandated Quality Indicator Survey is being implemented gradually across the U.S. More than half of states now use it. The new survey has two stages, the first of which requires in-depth interviews with residents, staff and others and a review of residents’ medical records. The second stage involves in-depth investigation of how well residents are assessed and how well care is planned and provided. The new process is more comprehensive.
Dan Benson, COO of American Senior Communities, said: “The Indiana State Department of Health is rigid in its standards. Surveyors go through the facility with a fine-tooth comb. Receiving a perfect score from surveyors really means something and is what we constantly strive to achieve. The thanks really go to the amazing staff and their strong focus on caring for the individual. Without that level of dedication they show every day, this wouldn’t be possible.”
