Little River Wetlands Project, a local nature organization protecting almost 1,200 acres of natural and restored wetlands in Allen and Huntington Counties, offers interesting and informative nature events this August. All are free and open to the community.

Short Hikes for Short Legs
Butterflies and
Wildflowers
Meet at the Eagle Marsh barn, 6801 Engle Road, Fort Wayne, to learn about the many different kinds of butterflies that rely upon Eagle Marsh’s wildflowers. We’ll make models of the monarch butterfly lifecycle, then hike among the flowers in search of swallowtails, buckeyes, azures and many more.

Meet at the Eagle Marsh barn, 6801 Engle Road, Fort Wayne. In late summer, thousands of butterflies nectar from the wildflowers at Eagle Marsh. Learn more about their lifecycles and the native plants they rely on, then visit our milkweed gardens where monarch caterpillars munch.

Monarch Magic
Meet at the Aboite Branch of the Allen County Public Library, 5630 Coventry Lane, Fort Wayne.
Gear up for LRWP’s Monarch Festival (September 8) by joining Jody Heaston, Indiana Master Naturalist and owner of “Naturally Speaking,” for a slide presentation on monarch butterflies and their lifecycle, including their incredible annual journey to Mexico’s oyamel forests and their long flight back.
