SAVE THE MALES – 2013!

Raising awareness of prostate cancer through a golf outing called the Blue Ball Open, local sportscaster Kent Hormann and Cynthia Cornwell, Executive Editor of The Waynedale News have scheduled their 4th annual event for Friday, August 9th at Cedar Creek Golf Club in Leo, Indiana. Registration is noon. Shotgun start at 1pm.

A couple of blue balls will be given away to each player, as well as a golf towel and cap. The cost is $75/player which includes 18-holes with cart, beverages all day, hog roast to follow. New this year is a live auction. Items to bid on include ND tickets, Colts tickets, Season Komet tickets, Casa’s Dinner Party at Jason Fabini’s home, just to name a few.

Last year, over $24,000 was raised.

Every year, approximately 8,000 cases of cancer of the prostate are diagnosed at an advanced stage and roughly 32,000 men are projected to die this year from the disease in the United States. Despite these statistics, many people think prostate cancer is less dangerous than other cancers. In fact, cancer of the prostate is the second leading cause of cancer deaths among men, apart from lung cancer.

“We cannot thank the sponsors, golfers and supporters of this outing enough,” said Co-Chair Cornwell. “100% of the proceeds from this outing will go towards prostate cancer research and awareness. And it stays right here in the Fort Wayne community…to organizations like Parkview Research and Cancer Services of Northeast Indiana.”

1 in 6 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer, compared to 1 in 8 women who will face breast cancer.
Everyone has a guy in their life that means a lot to them, whether it is a dad, brother, husband, cousin, best friend…it’s for them.

During the Blue Ball “fight back” golf outing participants can learn more about the disease and how to fight it. Information and coupons for free screenings will be given out the day of the event.
Come on out and enjoy a great day of golf for a good cause.

The Blue Ball Golf Outing is still accepting $100 hole sponsorships, donations and teams.
