HAPPY TRAILS TO YOU!

Bikers take to the St. Marys Pathway during Trek The Trails June 11th at Foster ParkSummer has officially arrived and it’s time to air up the tires on your bike or don your walking shoes and hit the Trails…The Fort Wayne Trails that is.

Fort Wayne Trails and the City of Fort Wayne sponsor “Trek the Trails” every Tuesday at 6 p.m. throughout the summer to encourage residents to explore our awesome network of trails. The second Tuesday of each month is a Trail Mixer where food and fun follow the Trek.

A Trail Mixer was held at Foster Park on June 11. Over 110 people attended the event and enjoyed food from the Ragin’ Cajun food truck. Saturday rides are also available once a month beginning at 9 a.m. Visit FWTRAILS.ORG for a schedule of all upcoming Treks and Mixers.

Waynedale is blessed to have the St. Marys Pathway located so close by. One goal of the Waynedale community is to create a safe pedestrian crossing over the Lower Huntington Bridge tying into the Rivergreenway. Plans have been drawn up but there is no timetable set until the funds become available. An account has been established at Midwest Federal Credit Union on Bluffton Road to collect donations towards this project.

Camille Garrison, Marketing Director for Kingston Residence, helps coordinate the fundraising for this Waynedale Initiative. “Our current balance is $12,500, which is a long way from the $200,000 plus needed to complete the project.”

Kingston Residence has donated part of the proceeds from the past two Taste of Waynedale and Good Old Days events to the fund. Hair Affair just hosted a Spring Social. Pizza Hut on Bluffton Road has sponsored two fundraisers donating 15% of their lunch sales and they also have a collection box available by the register. Curves on Bluffton Road regularly holds raffles to raise money for the fund. And Chick-fil-A also hosts Spirit Nights. “It’s such a worthwhile cause,” states Garrison. “There are no sidewalks beyond the intersection of Lower Huntington and Winchester and to bike on either Fairfield or Tillman Roads to the trailheads nearby is definitely not a safe situation.”

If you would like to support the Fort Wayne Trails ~ Waynedale Initiative, please mail your donation to MWAFCU at 6001 Bluffton Road, Fort Wayne, IN 46809. To get a Fort Wayne Trails map, sponsor a fundraiser or for more information, please contact Camille at 415-7741.
