BLUE BALL GOLF OPEN DONATES TO PARKVIEW FOUNDATION
The Blue Ball Open has presented Parkview Foundation with $12,000 in support of prostate cancer research and awareness. A portion of the funds raised at Blue Ball Open’s third annual event were donated to Parkview Research Center to help fund ongoing and future prostate cancer research.
“I am delighted that we have been able to establish a relationship with Parkview Foundation and Parkview Research Center. As a recent prostate cancer patient at the hospital, my fears were put at ease by the skilled surgeons and nurses at Parkview and its state-of-the-art facilities. I am pleased that some of the proceeds from the Blue Ball Open can help fight against prostate cancer,” said Kent Hormann, Blue Ball Open Co-Chair.
Cynthia Cornwell, Blue Ball Open Co-Chair, echoed Hormann, “Although public attention is providing an opportunity for greater visibility with prostate cancer awareness, the issue that matters most to men diagnosed with the disease is finding ways to diagnose and treat. That is why we have chosen to donate and support Parkview’s prostate cancer research. It is up to the researchers to find that life-saving intervention.”
The Blue Ball Open is a local event focused on raising funds to support education and awareness of prostate cancer. 100% of the funds raised each year are given to outreach programs and services in the Fort Wayne area that support men who are dealing with a prostate cancer diagnosis.
“Community support from philanthropic events like The Blue Ball Open is invaluable for not only the success of the Research Center, but also the success of the research being conducted for the benefit of our patients and the medical community,” said Rob Plant, Director of Parkview Research Center.
Parkview Research Center is currently conducting nine unique prostate cancer treatment studies in addition to a local survey that will provide the foundational data for a Prostate Cancer Survivorship Program to be introduced in 2014. The future Survivorship Program will focus on spiritual, psychological, physical and financial adjustments prostate cancer survivors face after treatment is complete. The initial surveys and program vision are in alignment with the Research Center’s Cancer Program Accreditation through the American College of Surgeons.
