USF SISTER TALKS TO ST. JOSEPH-ST. ELIZABETH SCHOOL
On December 13, Sister Gayle Rusbasan, OSF, visited the St. Joseph campus of St. Joseph-St. Elizabeth School to talk about vocations to the Religious life and the priesthood. Sister Gayle spoke to the 5th and 8th graders.
Sister Gayle talked about her own interest in becoming a Religious Sister, which began in Catholic grade school. Before becoming a Sister, Sister Gayle told of working as a reporter for a Catholic newspaper and covering a special jubilee Mass and celebration for Religious Sisters celebrating 50-year anniversaries.
“I had a very strong feeling that I wanted to be one of those Sisters. That’s when I knew that I wanted to become a Sister,” she said.
Sister Gayle belongs to the Franciscan Sisters of the Sacred Heart, whose motherhouse is in Frankfort, Illinois. Sister Gayle works as a campus minister at the University of St. Francis.
She talked to the students about the application process to enter a Religious order, and the different steps involved before taking Religious vows.
The students asked about her veil and her ring that symbolizes her commitment to being a Religious Sister and “bride of Christ.” Sister Gayle talked about a typical work day, her work at the University of St. Francis, and how much she enjoys being campus minister there.
“I get to hang out with cool college kids,” she told the 5th and 8th graders.
