SPRING STREET BRIDGE RIBBON CUTTING
The Allen County Board of Commissioners announced that a ribbon cutting ceremony signaling the completion of the Spring Street Bridge project will be held on Friday, October 5th at 4pm. The ceremony will take place ON THE EAST SIDE OF THE BRIDGE.
Among those participating in the ribbon cutting will be officials from Allen County and the City of Fort Wayne and Sister Elise Kriss, OSF, President of the University of St. Francis.
The County Highway Department partnered with the City of Fort Wayne to rehabilitate the bridge over the Norfolk Southern Railroad, adding lanes, widening the roads, signalizing an intersection and installing sidewalks. Total cost of the project was around $2.27 million, with 80 percent of the funding coming from the federal government.
ON THE WEST SIDE OF THE BRIDGE Deer Park Irish Pub is planning a party to celebrate too!
It was a sad day about a year ago when the county closed the roads and started tearing up the bridge to redo the railroad tracks, closing off Tony Henry’s Deer Park entrance. The only way to get there was through the back alley.
“It hurt business,” Tony said. “It was like prohibition had set in!”
But now it’s time to celebrate! The bridge will open and so will Deer Park. Tony hopes to be the first to cross over the bridge – putting an end to prohibition. And to continue-with business as usual-there will be plenty of brews on tap to celebrate, including Coors’ Batch 19.
Batch 19 is a throwback to the pre-Prohibition days of Coors. Colorado went dry in 1916, and the nation followed suit in 1919, hence comes “Batch 19.” The taste of this Pre-Prohibition Style Lager beer is based on an authentic recipe by Adolph Coors that was banned in 1919, now sold through Five Star Distributing. The old-time Coors lager is a little carmel, slightly hoppy and easy drinking and will be re-released on Friday at Deer Park!
Come out and celebrate at Deer Park’s Irish Pub on Friday. Wear your prohibition flapper dress or Al Capone look-alike attire and enjoy a nice cold brew, Coney Island hotdogs and chili.
