Little River Wetlands Project, a local nature organization protecting almost 1,200 acres of natural and restored wetlands in Allen and Huntington Counties, offers interesting and informative nature events this October. “Little River Ramblers”
Meet at the Eagle Marsh barn, 6801 Engle Road, Fort Wayne to hike and explore the preserve’s interesting plants and wildlife.
Saturday, October 6
9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
“Floaters, Flyers, and Hitchhikers: Survival of the Species!”
Meet at the Eagle Marsh barn, 6801 Engle Road, Fort Wayne
Join Ben Hess of Heartland Restoration Services to explore the many ways plants try to make sure the next generation survives. Observe their dispersal methods and track the different plants’ spread by finding where others of the same species are growing.

“Sandhill Cranes: Our Majestic Migrants.”
Meet at the Aboite Library, 5630 Coventry Lane, Fort Wayne.
Mark Weldon, Animal Curator for the Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo, will share his expertise on the Sandhill cranes that migrate through our area every autumn in this Powerpoint presentation and talk. These magnificent birds are easily seen on the wetlands or in the air as they pass through Indiana by the thousands.

“Where Do Insects Go In Winter?”
Light breakfast and nature presentation for nature lovers 50+ at Coventry Meadows Senior Community on W. Jefferson Blvd., Fort Wayne. Whether you consider them friend or foe, how do insects survive our cold Indiana winters?
Ronnie Greenburg, Indiana Master Naturalist, will tell us about and show us the many places in wetlands and beyond where our six-legged companions spend the cold winter months.
