CARL A. SLUSHER, SR.,76
CARL A. SLUSHER, SR., age 76, of Tyler, formerly of Fort Wayne, Indiana, passed away in the mid-afternoon hours of Thursday, November 3, 2011 at East Texas Medical Center in Tyler. He was born on August 21, 1935 in Fort Wayne to Wiley and Elinor Jane Folwer Slusher; they preceded him in death. After high school he proudly served his country in the United States Army, during the Korean Conflict, and attained the rank of Private 2nd Class.
Carl worked his life as a trucker for Graves Trucking, Towne Air Freight, and finally retired as an independent owner/operator. He married Mary Louise Place in 1992 and together they spent the next 18 years living a lifetime of memories and raising a family.
Carl was a member of the American Legion in Tyler, the HOBO CB club of Fort Wayne, and the East Lake Baptist Church in Teaselville, Texas.
Carl is survived by his wife Mary; son Carl Arthur Slusher, Jr. of Fort Wayne, IN; sister, Shirley Eileen Price of Bullard; step-son, Lawrence Jay Reed of Cincinnati, Ohio; grandson, Cameron Slusher of Fort Wayne, IN; step-children, Jerry Wylds, and wife Karen, and Ronald Wylds, and wife Linda; and by numerous other relatives and friends.
He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Martha Lena Sprayberry Slusher; brother, Robert Hartman Slusher; sister, Verna Ann Troyer; and stepdaughter, Linda Wylds.
Funeral services for Mr. Carl Slusher were held at 1:30 P.M., Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at Elzey-Patterson-Rodak Home For Funerals, 6810 Old Trail Road, Fort Wayne, IN with visitation from noon to 1:30 P.M. Burial followed at Lindenwood Cemetery with Bob Bunn, Dick Byers, Erich East, David Fahlsing, Paul Salas, Ollie Snider, Lonnie Wasson, Jerry Wylds, and Ronny Wylds serving as honorary pallbearers.
