SAVE THE MALES!

Raising awareness of prostate cancer through a golf outing called the Blue Ball Open, local sportscaster Kent Hormann and Cynthia Cornwell, Executive Editor of The Waynedale News have scheduled the event for Friday, August 5th at Cedar Creek Golf Club in Leo, Indiana. Registration is noon. Shotgun start at 1pm.

Last year, in less than six weeks, over $13,000 was raised.

Every year, approximately 8,000 cases of cancer of the prostate are diagnosed at an advanced stage and roughly 32,000 men are projected to die this year from the disease in the United States. Despite these statistics, many people think prostate cancer is less dangerous than other cancers. In fact, cancer of the prostate is the second leading cause of cancer deaths among men, apart from lung cancer.

Lutheran Health Network is once again the title sponsor for the Blue Ball Open. Other key sponsors include Lutheran Life Villages, Five Star Distributing, Northeast Indiana Urology, INCnow and Indiana Lasik Center.

“We cannot thank the sponsors, golfers and supporters of this outing enough,” said Co-Chair Cornwell. “The proceeds from this outing will go towards organizations like Cancer Services of Northeast Indiana.”

1 in 6 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer, compared to 1 in 8 women who will face breast cancer.

Everyone has a guy in their life that means a lot to them, whether it is a dad, brother, husband, cousin, best friend…it’s for them too. During the Blue Ball “fight back” golf outing participants can learn more about the disease and how to fight it. Information and coupons for free screenings will be given out the day of the event from Lutheran Health Network Cancer Center who wishes to raise the need for regular testing and early detection.

Drive your blue ball.

A sleeve of blue balls will be given away to each player, as well as many prizes. The price is $65/golfer which includes 18-holes with cart, beverages all day, hog roast to follow. The Blue Ball Open is still accepting donations and teams.
