THE PARADE IS COMING!
Onlookers, many of whom stake “claims” with chairs the night before, crowd the sides of the parade route on Memorial Day, Monday, May 31st for the Waynedale Memorial Day parade.
Line-up prior to the parade will be at Waynedale United Methodist Church, at the corner of Old Trail Road and Church Street. The parade steps off at 9am and those wishing to be a participant in the parade should be at the Waynedale United Methodist Church parking lot at 8am. There is no fee to participate in The Waynedale Memorial Day parade.
Parade sponsors this year are: American Legion Post #241, VFW Post #1421, and AmVets Post #33. The host this year is American Legion Post #241. Commander Ken Holloway has been busy organizing and scheduling meetings for the event.
The parade ends at Prairie Grove Cemetery with the Military Ceremony beginning at the cemetery. The Elmhurst High School band will be performing the national anthem and their bugler playing “Taps.”
Just as we can be quite proud of the crowds that gather on each side of Old Trail Road from Waynedale United Methodist Church to Prairie Grove Cemetery, we should stand proud of the heartfelt ceremony that follows in the cemetery where a wreath in honor of all veterans will be displayed.
Last year’s Waynedale Memorial Day parade was a record year for attendance, so get your spot early on Old Trail Road, Monday, May 31st.
What a great time to come out and show your community spirit and patriotism. Wear your red, white and blue and receive a flag from the American Legion Post #241.
