LOCAL BUSINESS OWNER RECEIVES PRESTIGIOUS HUMANITARIAN AWARD

Betsy M. Collier was presented the Lorine Peters Humanitarian Award at the annual Elex Volunteer Recognition Banquet & Installation Ceremony. The award was established in 1996 to honor one member for exemplary service, dedication and unselfish commitment to Elex Club, its members and to Elex Community Connection.

Betsy Collier has held various Elex Club Officer positions. She was a two-term President of Elex Club, Vice-President, Secretary, Assistant Treasurer, Director, Advisor, Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson for the Past Presidents Club, and Convention Treasurer.

Betsy’s volunteer efforts reach far and wide. Volunteer services included Habitat for Humanity, Touch-A-Heart, Pick-A-Star, Paint-a-thon, Relay for Life, Walk-A-Thon, Read-to-Me, Book Drives, Three Rivers Festival Parade, Cancer Awareness Day and Earth Day.

Betsy had served on numerous Elex Club Committees; with a few being Finance, Constitution, ‘A Night out with Elex’ and Saturday Night Convention Program Co-Chair.

Some highlights of Betsy’s fundraising efforts included Community Connection, Habitat for Humanity, and being Fundraising Chairperson for the ‘Golden Circle of Friends’ Convention, raising sufficient funds to allow the convention to be solvent.

She had served on numerous Elex Club Committees, enhancing the fund-raising efforts of Elex Club, which was a huge undertaking.

Betsy did all of this while actively involving her young daughter, Kaitlyn, in the majority of the programs and her community service work.

One of Betsy’s current efforts includes being a member of the ‘Sounds of Friendship Chorus’, where she is a featured soloist, reader and occasional leader. Betsy is very positive, energetic and encourages audience participation, and she is admired for her enthusiasm, beautiful, high soprano voice and her prayerful ministry.

Betsy’s volunteer service has now branched out into the Bluffton area, where she owns and operates a Curves franchise, and contributes manpower and dollars to countless charitable causes, as well as volunteer assistance at her Church, Girl Scouts, Schools, and other charities.
