OPAL M. EISENBISE, 92
OPAL M. EISENBISE, 92, went Home to her Lord Wednesday, October 15, 2008, at Hospice Home, Fort Wayne. Born October 14, 1916, in Perkins County, S.D., she was the daughter of Grace Albine and Bene T. Johnson. She grew up in Spearfish, S.D. She graduated from Rapid City Business College in 1934, returning to Spearfish to work a variety of jobs. She was involved in the new production of the Black Hills Passion Play, in 1938. This summer was the final season of the play. She met her future husband, Rocky, a soldier of F Troop, 1st Calvary, stationed at Ft. Meade, S.D. on a blind date. They were married on July 1, 1940. Daughter, Bonnie was born in 1943 and Rocky went off to World War II returning three years later. Daughter, Connie was born in 1946. Military assignments moved them about the states until they settled in Fort Wayne in the early 1950s.
Opal worked at Barrett’s Five and Dime Store, in Waynedale, for several years and then did custom sewing at home until about a year ago.
“Another way to spell Opal was L-O-V-E. She loved her Lord, her family, friends, sewing and animals, especially her last love, Shortë.”
Survivors include daughters, Bonnie Gibson and Connie Weston; grandchildren, Brett (Jennifer) Lepper and Lori (Will) Cretsinger; three great-grand children; and four step great-grandchildren. Her husband, Rocky, died on March 17, 1991.
A Celebration of Life was Saturday, October 18, at Avalon Missionary Church, Family Life Center, 1212 Lower Huntington Road. Burial in Black Hills National Cemetery, Sturgis, S.D.
