FORT WAYNE RESCUE MISSION TO HOST FREE THANKSGIVING DINNER

On Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 27th, The Fort Wayne Rescue Mission will once again offer its annual All-You-Can-Eat Thanksgiving Day Buffet. This traditional meal features ham or turkey with all the trimmings, including mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, stuffing, green beans, dinner rolls and pumpkin pie. It is provided free of charge to those in our community as a gift from the Mission’s supporters.

We are also very excited to introduce Gethsemane Lutheran Church, located at 1505 Bethany Lane, as a new site where we will be serving Thanksgiving Dinner. Our goal is to make available to folks on the north end of town, unable to travel to the Rescue Mission, a hot meal on Thanksgiving Day. This will be a Dine-In only meal. A BIG THANK YOU to our brothers and sisters at Gethsemane Lutheran Church. If you have any questions for Gethsemane Lutheran Church, please contact Ruth Ann Wigmann at 471-2297.

Serving at both locations will occur between noon and 3:00 p.m. In addition, carryout meals will be available only at the Rescue Mission location for taking to those who may be homebound or not able to attend. Last year, over 1700 free meals were served at the Rescue Mission on Thanksgiving Day.

The Mission began over 100 years ago as a volunteer ministry of Fort Wayne area Christians who were concerned about the inner city’s poor, hungry, homeless, and unchurched. In addition to special holiday meals on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter, the Mission also prepares and serves hot meals to the hungry each day at noon and each evening at 5:00. However, Rescue Ministries goes beyond just feeding the hungry. Each night, homeless people are provided shelter, hot showers, and an evening chapel program, as well as their meals.

Rescue Ministries has a bed capacity that can serve over 150 men, women and children per night. Last year, ministry facilities provided over 36,000 nights of lodging. The Community Meals Program offers hungry people free meals for lunch and dinner seven days a week. Over 160,000 meals are served annually to both residents and people from the community.

Everyone is welcome to join us for the Mission’s 2008 Thanksgiving Day Dinner at 301 West Superior Street, or Gethsemane Lutheran Church located at 1505 Bethany Lane, including families, groups of friends, and those alone for the holiday. “A home for the homeless, food for the hungry, and hope for their future through the love of Jesus Christ.”
