ALMA MAE “ANN” (BLOOM) SPRINGER
ALMA MAE “ANN” (BLOOM) SPRINGER, of Fort Wayne, died Tuesday, August 5, 2008, at Kingston Residence, 7515 Winchester Road. (her home since July 1999). Previously she lived in Waynedale for 52 years. Born February 4, 1916, in Garrett, she was the daughter of Leon and Ethel (Harvey) Bloom. She graduated in 1934 from Garrett High School. She worked at Fort Wayne Tailoring Corporation for 17 years and retired from Bennett’s of New Haven after seven years in 1979. She married Gerald E. (Jerry) Springer on November 11, 1939, by the Reverend Boerger at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Fort Wayne. She was a Cub Scout den mother from 1951 to 1953, in Waynedale.
She was a Sunday school teacher and nursery school teacher at Bethany Lutheran Church, Fort Wayne for a number of years. She was a 50+year member of Pro To Home Economic Club and Lake County Extension Club, in Clermont, Florida for over 10 years. She was active at Trier Ridge Church of God and the Dorcus Women’s Missionary Society. For many years she was in a Bridge Club. She loved playing cards, sewing, knitting and crocheting baby gifts for family, friends and her church bizarre.
Surviving are two children, Mrs. Gerald (Bonnie) Dennis of Markle and James E. (Judy) Springer of Fort Wayne; four granddaughters, Heidi Dennis of Marina Del Ray, California, Holly Dennis of Nashville, Tennessee, Heather (Mark) Church of Denver, Colorado, and Keri Springer of Dearborn Heights, Mich.; two great-granddaughters, Maggie and Zoey Church, both of Denver, CO; and sisters, Valetta Walters and Martha Musser, both of Fort Wayne.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Gerald E. “Jerry” Springer on March 29, 1993; brothers, Harold J. “Toot” Bloom on February 16, 1994, Charles Edward Bloom, in 1930, James Frederick Bloom, in 1921, and Paul James (Bud) Bloom, in 1983; and sisters, Betty M. (Bloom) Smith, in 1999, Mildred I. (Sue) Dean, in 1994 and Mary Elizabeth Kerns, in 2008.
Funeral service was Friday, August 8, 2008 at Trier Ridge Community Church of God, 7501 Hessen Cassel Road, Fort Wayne, with calling one hour prior. Pastor Matt Tosten officiating. Visitation was Thursday, August 7, 2008 at Elzey Patterson Rodak Funeral Home, 6810 Old Trail Road, Fort Wayne.
Burial in St. Mark’s Lutheran Church Cemetery, 16933 Thiele Road, Fort Wayne.
