THE ELMHURST CLASS OF 1957

They came from near and far…

The Elmhurst Class of 1957 enjoyed their 50th class reunion that began Friday evening, May 17, 2007 with an open house at the home of Bob and Phyllis (Spar) Kent.

After 25 years or more it was interesting and challenging identifying those who were in attendance, the picture name tags came in quite handy.

The graduating class was 115 members, 14 are deceased, and 10 were not able to be located. Saturday morning a group of classmates, family members, and friends gathered at Elmhurst High School for a tour conducted by, our teacher, Don Goss.

The school is well kept and much different than in the fifties. The “Jug” (detention room) as we used to call it, was a rather comical area as memories came flooding back from the good old days at E.H.S. We then motored to Orchard Ridge for lunch. Memories of the days spent golfing and caddying there were very much enjoyed.

The rest of the afternoon was spent golfing, shopping, relaxing, or participating in a bike ride led by Phil Snyder through the areas of earlier childhood school days and places of our interest.

Our banquet was held at the Hilton Garden Inn on West Jefferson Blvd., and began with a social hour at 6pm Saturday evening.

A buffet dinner was served to the 80 in attendance. The evening was spent enjoying classmate Gary Schelton aka Troy Shondell singing many hits of the 50s and also serenading the classmates with the song that made him famous “This Time.”

The night continued creating stories; a lifetime of memories was made in this one weekend. Teachers Mr. John Sinks, Mr. Nick Werling, and Mr. Don Goss shared in our wonderful celebration.
