LETTER TO THE EDITOR
Roanoke Friends thank community for support
The Friends of the Roanoke Public Library send their thanks and gratitude to American Legion Post 160 and the whole community for their support and participation in the April 6th Fish Fry and raffle drawings. All together, the Friends were able to raise approximately $600.
The Friends would like to express their heart-felt thanks to American Legion Post 160, in Roanoke: Dave Ritenour, John Abt and all the Legion members that worked behind the scenes to help with the Fish Fry and for their generous donation of $485 to our organization.
Also, a big thank you to the Roanoke Library Board of Trustees, Library staff and other volunteers who worked that night cooking, cleaning and serving our guests and to everyone who attended the Fish Fry and participated in both raffle drawings.
The winner of the Friends’ Wall Hanging raffle, drawn on April 6th, was Mary Weiss. Three prizes were awarded during the Spring Raffle drawing on May 5th: A limited edition print featuring the Interurban Train by local artist Bob Rose won by David Smith; an AAA 74-piece Road Adventure Auto Safety Kit was awarded to Becky Witt; and a book, entitled Pickups, which details the development of American pickup trucks was won by Charlotte Smart.
Proceeds from the Fish Fry and the Spring Raffle will help pay the cost for the Library to develop a special collection of materials on transportation. Half the money from the wall hanging raffle will be used to purchase new DVD movies for library patrons to view.
