COUNCILMAN’S CORNER
There has been good progress this year on construction of the southerly extension of Ardmore Avenue to Airport Expressway. Thanks to all of the drivers who have been patient during the construction season. The Ardmore-Hillegas thoroughfare expansion is on the 2020 long range traffic plan for Allen County. The next section to be completed will be the section between Taylor and W. Jefferson Blvd. which is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2007. As I mentioned in a previous column representatives of Elmhurst High School and the City of Fort Wayne have been meeting regularly in an effort to enhance safety at Elmhurst during the coming years. This is especially important since traffic in the Elmhurst area will most likely steadily increase in the future.
City Council has recently been debating a proposed Riverfront Development Plan. This plan would give a special financial break to the owners of new restaurants near the rivers in the downtown area. Some of the owners of current restaurants have been concerned that these special arrangements would help new restaurants while making it harder for the older restaurants to compete. Council is still considering this measure. I’m sure that a compromise will be reached which will enhance our downtown while giving current business owners a fair deal.
Halloween festivities will take place soon. Please drive carefully while kids are out and about trick or treating. Also, if there are any problems with fall leaf pickup call the Street Department at 427-1235. Give me a call with any problems or constructive suggestions.
