JOHN SANFORD REHRER
JOHN SANFORD REHRER, 88, of Fort Wayne, passed away Wednesday, June 28, 2006 at home. A life-long resident of Fort Wayne, he graduated from South Side High School class of 1936 and the General Electric Tool & Die Apprentice program in 1940. He worked for G.E. for 3 more years then went to Morrill Motors for 5 years before beginning a 33 plus year career with Franklin Electric Company. He was very active in the Waynedale United Methodist Church well into his 80’s. He loved trailer camping with the “Good Sam’s” and the “Waynedale Drifters when not tending his garden or woodworking. He also loved being a winter Texan in Harlingen.
Surviving are his loving wife, Virginia; children, Sandra (James) Auman of LaOtto, Kay (David) Vogel of LaFeria, Texas, Neil (Susan) Rehrer of Montague, Michigan, Randal (Donna) Rehrer of Lutz, Florida, Susan (Todd) Breland of Fort Wayne and Douglas (Lois) Rehrer of Fort Wayne; stepchildren, Sandra (Randall) Johnson of Columbus, Indiana, Joseph (Sue) Kelley of Peru, Indiana, Mary Kelley of Columbia City; sisters, Bonnie Pappert and Rita Carteaux, both of Fort Wayne; 10 grandchildren; 20 step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; 28 step-great-grandchildren; and three step-great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cloyed and Elizabeth Rehrer; his first wife of 46 years, Velma Yoder Rehrer; brother, Robert Rehrer; and sister, Virginia Lepper.
Service was Thursday, July 6, at Waynedale United Methodist Church, 2501 Church Street. Calling was on Wednesday at Elzey Patterson Rodak Home for Funerals, 6810 Old Trail Rd. Burial in Lindenwood Cemetery.
