LEFFERS HONORED EXCELLING IN ATHLETICS, SCHOLARSHIP, AND CITIZENSHIP

Krista Leffers, a senior at Bishop Luers, is a finalist for the Wendy’s High School Heisman award. On Sunday, November 13th Krista along with her parents, Steve and Karen Leffers and Bishop Luers Principal, Mary Keefer attended an awards luncheon at the RCA Dome. Krista and the other Indiana finalists were honored on the football field prior to the Colts/Houston Texans game.

The Wendy’s High School Heisman recognizes high school students throughout the country who excel in academics, athletics and community involvement. The program is important because it acknowledges multi-talented individuals who make positive contributions to their communities and strive for excellence at every level. To be eligible a student must be entering their senior year of high school, maintain at least a “B” grade point average and participate in at least one of 32 sports officially sanctioned by the National Federation of State High Schools. By the end of November the state winners will be narrowed to 12 national finalists.

Krista is a member of Bishop Luers: Key Club, Academic Super Bowl, and Peer Ministry. She is a student ambassador and senior class president. She was a member of the volleyball team and plans on running track in the spring. She is also a carrier for The Waynedale News.

Mary Keefer had this to say about Krista, “Krista Leffers is a kind, young woman who is most deserving of this honor. She treats all with respect and represents Bishop Luers very well.”
