AVALON SWIM CLUB WINS 6TH CITY SWIM TITLE!

Avalon Swim Club once again painted their fingernails green and blue, decorated vehicles and cheered their team on to score 2251 points successfully defending their City Swim title at the Helen P. Brown Natatorium held July 15, 16 and 17, 2005.

The City Swim Meet, sponsored by Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation, is divided into age groups so there is equal competition for everyone, the oldest group being the 15-and-over group and the youngest in the 8-and-under. Avalon’s theme for this year was: “You’re A Shining Star!” The Shining Stars from Avalon include: Blake Johnson – high point scorer in the 11-12 year age category, Erica Smith – high point person for 15-and-over, and Andrew Hoffman won high points for the 15-and-over young men. 1100 youngsters competed in the city event with Avalon winning over second place Pocahontas by 1132 points.

The Avalon Swim Club Teams are coached by Chris Knoblauch along with Assistant Coach Tara Berghoff. Since 1997 Chris Knoblauch has been the head coach for Avalon’s team. He has recently announced that this will be his last year as head coach. “We’re proud of our champion swim and dive teams. I will miss the friendships that are renewed each season.”

Avalon’s Swim Club is located in the Avalon Addition off Bluffton Road in Waynedale. If you have never belonged to a summer pool before, you owe it to yourself to get involved with this club. Families at Avalon Pool call this their “home” every summer from Memorial Day to Labor Day. It has been a part of the neighborhood for more than forty years.
