ST. THERESE STUDENTS AWARDED

ICTM (Indiana Council of Teachers of Mathematics) and St. Therese School have awarded Andrea Allphin, Jessica Beck & Lindsay Shutt an ICTM math award for excellence in mathematics for the school year 2003-2004. The future looks great with such bright students showing the way! We as members of ICTM, St. Therese School, and parents are very proud of their efforts.

 

JENNIFER HECKLEY WINS SCHOLARSHIP

Ivy Tech State College in Fort Wayne, is pleased to announce that Jennifer Heckley of Wayne High School has been selected to receive the college’s prestigious $1000 Choice Scholarship. Jennifer is one of only 19 seniors chosen from sixteen different area high schools to earn this award.These recipients were chosen by the scholarship committee based upon academic merit, community or high school involvement, and a personal written statement.

Should Jennifer choose Ivy Tech State College after graduating from high school, Jennifer will receive $1000 toward college tuition and fees.

 

RICHARDS WINNER FOR U. S. NATIONAL AWARD

The United States Achievement Academy announced today that Jared A. Richards from Fort Wayne had been named a United States National Award winner in Physical Education. The Academy recognizes fewer than 10% of all American high school students. Jared, who attends Wayne HS was nominated for this award by Tom Hogan, a teacher at Wayne and will appear in the United States Achievement Academy Official Yearbook, which is published nationally.

Jared is the son of Kerry and Tina Richards and the grandson of Jerry and Mary Moss and Donald and Norma Richards, all of Fort Wayne.

 

SUMMER READING PROGRAM BEGINS JUNE 7-JULY 30

Children, birth to those entering grade 5 in the fall, are encouraged to sign-up for the Allen County Public Library’s Children’s Summer Reading Program. The annual program is available at any location of the Allen County Public Library.

The program is divided into two parts: one for Pre-Readers and one for Readers. Each part encourages children to continue reading throughout the summer.

As a reward for reading, children receive prizes, can participate in special programs, and receive free books. In 2003 over 16,000 children participated in the program.
