PAUL NORMAN HEINTZE, 68

PAUL NORMAN HEINTZE, 68, died Wednesday, May 5th at Parkview Hospital. The Brentwood, Pennsylvania native was a retired Lutheran school teacher, principal, basketball and track coach, serving at schools in both Huntington and Fort Wayne for over 35 years and enjoyed his part-time employment as an interior trim carpenter for a Fort Wayne homebuilder. The son of a Lutheran pastor and grandson of a seminary professor, he was a graduate of Concordia, River Forest with a minor in Old and New Testament History and was a member of the varsity basketball and track teams. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed bowling, swimming and hiking and was a guide and outfitter of summer Canadian wilderness canoe expeditions, having made 76 Canadian trips with more than 550 people over the years and enjoyed giving presentations to civic groups and schools regarding the Canadian wilderness. He was a member of Suburban Bethlehem Lutheran Church and served as a part-time organist there. A choral director for more than 40 years, he was director of a large men’s chorus, The Lutheran Men of Song and previously sang with the LSU a cappella, The New Orleans Symphony, Pittsburgh Symphony, The NYC Lutheran Chorale and The Michael Padgett Singers. He was currently a member of the Fort Wayne Philharmonic Chorus and The Huntington Chamber Chorus.

He is survived by his sisters, Barbara (Richard) Chelsted of Latrobe, PA and Anita Fenner of Spring, TX; brother, Richard R. (Nancy) Heintz of Santa Barbara, CA; nieces and nephews, John Chelsted, Tim Chelsted, Andy Chelsted, Virginia Pokotylo, Doug Fenner, Stephani Padgett, Candace Springer, Dave Chelsted, Robert Heintze, Richard H. Heintze, Stephen Fenner and Jackie Fenner.

Funeral service was Tuesday, May 11th at the Suburban Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 6319 W. California Road. Calling was also at Klaehn, Fahl & Melton Funeral Homes, Wayne Street Chapel, 420 W. Wayne St. Burial at Suburban Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery.

The preferred memorial is Worship for Shut-Ins.
